The two Chinese characters, "蔬稷", are derived from the text of the pre-Qin Dynasty, reading "in the past, Shennong had the world, and his descendant was called Zhu, who could grow all kinds of grains and vegetables; after the establishment of the Xia Dynasty, Qi, the ancestor of Zhou, inherited the cause of Zhu, so Zhu was sacrificed as the God of Grain.".
